The Half Hearted
Untold stories from our father's life
After years of resenting my father, holding his choices and decisions responsible for most of the trauma from my teenage years, I moved back home in 2014 when his chronic condition worsened. I had to make peace with him, because, the love and admiration I've always had for him was far greater than any resentment I ever felt . I wanted him to know my stories, so that he would understand me better, as a person.
Instead, over the next five years I would come to discover the person, who happened to be my father, and everything about his suffering, strength, grit, determination, insecurities, mistakes, and fears that made him the man he was. The man who taught us to persevere in the face of adversity.
After 27 years of living life on his terms, with Severe Aortic Stenosis and just above 50% cardiac function - i.e, half a heart , My father passed away on the 24th of September 2019, at 61 years of age
